Lightbulb Need Advice

My exhaust manifold has been cracked for about a year, I've been drivivng it like that.

I got some money and want to put in a DC header. I have a 1998 SI.

This mechanic I know says he has a DC header, ceramic coated, slightly used but he will install it for $450. What I want to know is, he says that they dont make a header for my car and I was like what!!! He says in order for him to install the header he has to weld it.

I'm thinking this is probbaly a header from a different car and he's modifying it so it fits my car.

If it's a proper header for my car wouldnt it just simply be a bolt on? What do u guys think, is this guy scamming me?

Yes, he is scamming you.
Any D-series header will fit, no need for welding. Wouldn't let that guy work on my car if I were you...

No welding at all. I have a DC header on my 1.6 EL (same engine as your car) and I can assure you it was just a straight bolt-on.

Not to offend anyone on the board, but this is why I have a blanket distrust for mechanics. The gross majority are scam artists...

yeah buy separately and install from a different mechanic.

mine installed for 60 bucks. But BEEEE Careful!!!!!!!

there are mechanics who will tell you that they could not take out your O2 sensor and force you to buy a new one from them.

Some will intentionally snap it off claiming that it was seized.

The O2 sensor is also couple hundred bucks.
