ODBII CAR > ODBI ENGINE ??? What do I need?

So I've been shopping around for an engine...and I've found a couple sources...but they only have ODBI B16A's...

I have a 98 Civic Si with stock D16Y8 (ODBII) and I wanted to swap in a ODBI B16A.

In terms of wiring and harnesses and trouble codes and sensors...what will happen?

I want a chipped ODBI ecu.

Sean,
OBD2 to OBD1 is easy. Skunk and Hondata make harnesses and adapters, but really, if you have the pinout from the OBD1 ecu and your stock harness, you'll be fine just putting the pins in all the right places. There will be wires left over and not used, but that's not really a problem. Make sure you get the OBD1 connector for the ECU and then remove the pins, and insert the stock pins from the harness. It's a pain in the ***, but beats buying a $500 harness conversion.

I think i have a wiring diagram @ home for the wire harness. I'll look through it when i get home and post it.

OBDII >> OBD I

If you do it yourself, i've been told to grab a GSR wire diagram or EG Si. That will contain all the sensor wiring similar to our EK Si. ie. Vtec wiring, knock sensor etc. Take the 2 helms manual and enjoy.

Or if you wanna just buy one, save the headaches and fustration, check Hyperducktuning.com for all your tuning needs and wants. $290 for the harness and various chipping prices.

My advice to you is to get off your wallet and buy the connector harness I got one for 416$ including tax. I tried to hardwire the car to run but there isnt enough information in the service manuals to wire it properly. You have to cut your stock wring harness because the pins in the plugs are different, its not just a matter of moving the pins, the obd II pins are slightly larger and dont fit in the obd I connector. I looked every where for the spec to make it work, came up short, everyone who knew what had to be done, they were the ones who sold the parts and they don t want to give up their info, they want to sell the parts, do yourself a favour, and spend the money plug and play, no engine lights. The only other way to do it is copy one, you can buy the male and female connectors from some electronics stores and make one but the info is what is expensive.
