i have a 94 D16Z6 and i've been using quaker state filter number QS6811 for a long time now..I swear I saw it in the specs sometime back. Today I went to pick one up for a freind and I noticed that the filter for the same car is now a QS3594A (or 3993A, something like taht). and that the QS6811 is for crx and delsol of the same year. Is this a problem or the filters are fine??
which ones do you use by the way?? I seem to stick with quaker state.. pretty good oil and decent price..

HAMP and the JDM Honda filters are the same damn thing almsot. Actually if you took them apart you'll notice the hamp actually has less filter material, which provides slightly higher oil pressure. That's why VTEC guys like them. It helps ease the crossover. It all depends on personal taste. at half the cost and better filterign i owuld go with the JDM Honda filter at the cost of a bit lower oil pressure.. and i don't have VTEC. VTEC doens't own me.
Anyways, in case anyone asks, the JDM Honda filter i posted has the USDM part number on it because they are distributed by Nippon in North America. They are actually made by Toyo Roki, which supplies Honda of Japan all their filters.

Oh yeah, the best filter in terms of filtration is the Amsoil super duty filters. But oil pressure goes down big time. ALtech did testing on over 20 filters for their CRX and it showed a very significant drop in oil pressure compared to the JDM honda, USDM Honda (Filtech) and Canadian Honda (Fram) filters. If you don't drive your car hard at all and want a filter that lasts long get Amsoil..

Has there been any noticable difference in what filter you use. Like for instance, Fram has their variety, sure grip and then extra guard and then this X2 one? But like does anyone know which filter would be the best or do they depend on what you are looking for like pressure, durability, filteration, life span? I was reading on the Fram X2, u can drive something like 10K w/o replacing that? Whats that all about. I generally use w/e filter is on sale, but does it make a difference. Thanx

I wouldn't go 10k on any filter. hell i wouldn't go 5k on any filter... if you hook up an oil pressure gauge you'll notice differences between filters. moreso in VTEC motors, cuz VTEC is triggered by oil pressure which makes it so much more crucial. A filter seems like a simple enough thing but if you understand how they work and the role they play in your engine's life/performance oyu'll want the one that's best suited for your purposes. Beater? Daily driver with the occaisional trips to the track? Strictly drag/track car?

Yeah I get what you are saying that you have to really understand the facts behind the part, like telling people synthetic oil is better for your car.
Well for me, I don't know, a '99 Civic Sedan with a Non-V-tec engine, I don't think (a) have to worry about V-tec (b) its a sedan (c) no plans on racing it. So you get where I"m going from here. LOL.

yeah, I pretty much go for a Fram filter, for some reason whenever the 5K maker is coming around, Frams are on sale, LOL, but I use synthetic oil in my car, most of the time Mobil 1, I tried Amsoil, but thought do I really benefit from this? So yeah... thats my story of oil changing.

The new Mobil1 Supersyn isn't a true synthetic. The old Mobil1 Tri-synthetic was but they discontinued it. probably due to cost. Castrol Syntec is a blend as well.
Amsoil on other hand has been a true synthetic for 30 years.
If you're gonna go synthetic use amsoil otherwise stick to regular dyno juice like Castrol GTX.
