Problem with winter beater

Ok my beater is a 1989 pontiac tempest 2.8L...im haveing some altenator/battery problems, the other day my car lost power i mean everything stopped working, the signals, radio, heating, power windows, etc...but the car was running ok...until about 15 minutes later it stopped...there was NO power what so ever...had to call a tow truck to take mt to my mechanic...

so he replaced the altenator and re-charged the battery and the car was running fine, till today...problems again!...nothing is losing power this time inside the car but heres the problem...when im braking i notice the car starts to shake, and when i come to a complete stop the rpm's just drop and the car shuts off...i can turn it right back on but this happens every time i stop at a stop sign or red light...mostly after the cars been running for a bit (its ok at first)...what could be causing this?

thanx guys

Are you getting a check engine light? How do the plugs and plug wires look? If you leave it in neutral and brake, does it still stall?

the engine light comes on yes...and i didnt chek the plugs and wires...even if i put it in neutral it still does the same thing...unless i quickly rev the engine and keep reving...just b4 the car shuts off the rpms go crazy up-down etc...

It's a sensor issue...bridge two pins in your diagnostic plug (see manual for your car), and pull the codes. Then look up codes for your particular car on the net, and it will tell you what area you are having a problem with. Fix that, and your problem will go away.
