Will stock retainers work w/ skunk 2 dual valve spring set?

I would recommend using their matching retainers. Don't think stock retainers can take higher pressure over long period of time.

You upgrade to S2 dual springs because you are upgrading the cams, right?

yes I upgraded the cams- I was under the impression that oem was as strong as titanium, that it was more of a weight issue, is this true?
What would be considered a LONG period of time?
All I really need to know is if they will fit properly for now then I will upgrade retainers later-this is not a problem.

Its just the cost thing- I cant afford the 200+ for retainers right now, I can buy the springs though-

Steel is a stiffer metal than Ti, and both exhibits roughly the same fatigue points. However, Ti is roughly half the weight as steel. In general, strength to weight comparison, Ti is better than steel.

Reduce weight in valvetrain is a way to pick up more RPM range before you reach valve float. More RPM = more power, assuming your cams can make power up to that point.

With stiffer springs, it is usually the back side of the retainers that you need to worry about, because they do wear down.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

yeah, sounds like you're right charles...

also, if its only 200 for retainers... you really want to pay someone the same to get back in there down the road when they would probably do it for the same cost when they first install it?

and if you put cams and springs in and expect to rev to like 9k, your crazy without fully building the valvetrain.

stock retainers are cast, they WILL break with aftermarket springs...i have seen it. the whole engine will be junk when they do break. dont even try to get away with using the stock retainers for any amount of time... it will be a costly mistake.

use the matching retainers please you will be happy you did
on all my builds i use Crower Dual springs and seats and retainers all TI i will not do it any other way and your cams might wear down too but not as fast as the retainers lol dont forget to pick up new valves seals at honda while you are at it

If your putting that kind of money into your engine (cams etc..) why even think about using oem retainers.....?

the cromoly thing would have been nice to know a couple of days ago, I already have the ti on the way.

What are the pros/cons of ti/cromoly/aluminum retainers?

the problem with titanium retainers is that some/most of them wear out way faster than stock and for daily drivers, thats not so good. I've got well over 40,000kms on my crane stuff, daily driven year round, it'll be coming apart for inspection before i finish my LSvtec project.....if i don't abandon that all together and go boost.
But from what i can see from the quarterly valve adjustments i do, there isn't too much wear on the rocker arms/cam lobes.
