i know SOHC engines are cheaper than the DOHC b16a, b16a2 etc...
and im on tight budget...i was thinking would it be worth it to swap my engine for a vtec SOHC?? and possibly turbo it later on????/ it should be cheaper than the dohc but i am not sure if honda has sohc vtec?????// if so i have a 95 civic 4 door 5 spd...any help would be good guys thankssssssssss

are you doing it for the power gains, or are you doing a swap cuz your engine is dead...? If your doing it just to get more power IMO its not worth the time and money, cuz you could just do a mini me swap!! throw on a vtec head and your set, you will end up with basically the same engin as if you did a compleate swap...but if your current block is poohced, then obviously the whole swap is manditory... Ive seen some pretty sick SOHC's before, they do have potential to be quick, they dont get the attention they deserve poor things...lol

really....how how i go about getting the mini me swap done and which vtec head would mount on????/ prob is thoo my car has 230kms but still runs syckkkkk, however id still like a swap with lower kms...possibly under 50 if i can get...and im doin it up for power but dont want dohc, ive heard a lot of good things about those one cam wonders!!

There's a write-up on IAPECC about doing a mini-me: http://www.iapecc.com/mini_me.htm

the big thing is that per dollar you would see better results in a twin cam of similar displacement... single cam motors have to much valve float at hgih rpms... which can cause problems....
say compare a b16 and a d16z6... if your starting off with the d series you already gotta make up 30 or 40 hp pending which b16 you would get... so if you spent the money you would normally have spent on the 30 or 40 hp... you'd have a 200hp b16... thats pretty sick

b18, if you want to make good power at reasonable cost
stick with your stock block, and purchase a vtec head, send it to a machine shop to mill it, mild p&p and maybe even a Crowler camshaft, and adj gears.. I guarantee you will beat alot of b16's...depending on what they have done to there cars...
