my car has no power steering, but for some reasons, the steering wheel is very light. Do you know why?

snow on the ground makes for easy dry steering!

 

i have power steering and mine turns even easier now that theres all this snow

 

mine actualy got super heavey the other day...but it was minus 30 out and i think there was a boatload of snow packed in my wheel wells,,,

 

it's a 97 civic.

but even at indoor parking...no snow....it's very very easy to move the steering wheel

 

in 97, i'm pretty sure all Civics had power steering

 

i thought CX does not have power steering?

 

naw... I'm pretty sure all 97 cars had power brakes and power steering. Just pop your hood and see if you have a gray bottle with a red cap behind the dr side headlight.

 

no, i don't. I just have windshield washer fluid.

is it ligher than you remember it?? Is there play in the steering wheel...

it's hard to answer a question when you provide zero information about your problem.

the steering wheel is lighter than this time around last year.

When I drive on the snow 30-40km/hr, i feel very slippery as I feel the steering moves even I have snow tires. I am not sure if this is the problem.

if you take the wheel (road wheel, not steering) and you shake it back and forth, can you feel any play?

 

the milage of the car is about 150,000km....

Ok, cuz I would think your tie rods may be messed if you get like a wandering feeling while driving.

 

i moved the wheel with tire slightly, the steering wheel does move too.

 

so you say there is no play in the tie rod end?? Have you had your alignment checked? Does the car track straight? Have you had any encounters with various neighbourhood curbs? Caster changes affect steering effort. Do you have different tires than you had last year?

 

what do u mean by "play"?

I did not do any alignment because my car go straight. I hit the curb once.

I was using all-season tires instead of snow tires last year.
