steering wheel vibrates/rattles
7th gen civic sedan...
on the highway going over 90 it starts to vibrate a lot (almost like a paint shaker, well not that bad but close)
only started happening today....
i remembering reading somewhere on this forum, someone else had the same prob...and they figured it to be loose bolts on the rims...i tried to tighten them as much as possible but it still vibrates alot...
plz help!!!!
thx in advance

check tire balance, camber angles (???), hrmm, cant think of much more
its usually tire balance
i remember my moms '86 jag sovereign had uneven tire balance, and around 120 kph the thing would just start rattling lots... i remember my mom used to tell me it was cause it was so fast, ha.
edit: heres a little more help from the haynes manual:
Shimmy, shake or vibration
- Tire or wheel out-of-balance
- Loose or worn front hub or wheel bearings
- Worn tie-rod ends
-Worn lower balljoints
- Excessive wheel runout
- Blister or bump on tire
goodluck

It might be your alignment...
Or check if their's snow inside the wheel well. This happened to me the other day and the simplest way i solved the problem was to remove all the snow that was frozen around the tires..

had the car for just 11 months...checked tire pressure, wear and tear
yeah i thought it might have been the snow in the wheel well but i scraped all of it out, even the ones in the back (as if thats gonna help)
no accidents...that i know of as there are two other drivers but they would have told me.
so i guess im gonna go in for a aliment check
thx for all the help

take if for a car wash make sure you do one that cleans under the body, mine is doin the same (and did before) because all the snow...........(white ****) and ice from dat storm.......hope thats what it is for you.........nice and simple fix

94EG6HB that is 100% correct
You were either drifting in the snow... or .... well, drifting in the snow, and snow packed into your rim, throwing it way off balance. Check behind each rim for snow.
Either that or a curb ran up and hit your rim (and bent it) when you weren't looking

Snow
IMO.
Are you sure you got it all off? It doesn't take much to get that kind of vibration. You would be surprised how much 10 grams can make (about the amount of snow you can hold on one finger).
Also, if you really tightend up your bolts, untighten them and put them to the proper torque (80 lbs-ft) or you could warp your rotors/rims and do other damage.

it may be a wheel bearing problem. on my jetta at about 110km I started getting vibration and road noise. at first it was only when going around right bends on the highway, then after a brake job it was all the time and when going around left bends the vibration disappeared (took weight off left wheel bearing). Eventually it was all the time. After replacing the wheel bearing, the noise went away.
My advice is fix the problem (whatever it is) before the vibration creates lots of new resonances in your car. I had to install a lot of brown bread in the Jetta to remove all the new rattles left by the wheel bearing problem.
