Stiff Shifter

I am planning on buying this 95 civic from a guy but the shifters really stiff. He tells me it because it's been sitting for 8 months and will loosen up with some use.

Is this bull**** or what.

thanks

Some people like tight feeling, some like loose. Mine is pretty tight.

It's possible that the bearings may be rusty and starting to seize. How much were you going to pay for it? For $75-$100 you could buy a cheaper brand new one.

im pretty sure hes buying the car not the shifter :P if ur concerned about it buy a generic short shifter, less than 50 bux and new bushings are like 15 bux more it shouldnt take more than an hour to swap i did mine myself nps, just make sure u get some penatrating oil on the 2 bushing bolts b4 u try and crack them cause they will snap like mine

Yup, I misread his post. But it can always be replaced with another short shifter or even an OEM one. Try lubing the shifter and loosening the bolt.

stick with OEM....

if its a short shifter, check if the car has an exhaust.....
i had a short shifter and evertime it rained m shifter got stuck.... on the exhaust... scary as hell....

so after my shifter broke, i went back to OEM.
it feels much beter.. and plus i had urethane bushings put in, so it feels nice

agreed, I was not too satisfied with my short shifter, and traded it, it felt kind of knotchy going into gears, and would touch the exhaust going into 5th.......not worth it.....stock is soo smooth.....

The stabalizer shift linkage is tight on the bushing that bolts to the shifter, either put a new bushing in or just install a lock nut and leave it a little loose. It probably wont loosen up with use alone, it will have to have a little bit of help.
