stock air box vs short ram?
i noticed that when i put my stock air box back in the car is quieter... but feels like it has more power at all rpms.... i had a custom short ram... it placed the cone as far to the right turn signal area under the hood as possible... which is roughly where the stock air box pulls air from....
has anyone else noticed this one??

Your stock air filter box has an intake tube that draws in cooler air, so really, I can't see the point to the short ram. All I can see is that they're more open to allow more air to run into it freely, but it really doesn't seem to improve performance from what I've seen and heard.

ya its still on there.... what i was thinking of doing.... was keeping the box in there... and you know how the Si fronts have that big opening and then two smaller ones to either side?? well take the one on the passenger side and open it up and make a ram air type thing there?? is that a good idea??

well tomorrow i'm taking a stab at installing springs.... if that goes smoothly then i wouldn't assume this ram air thing to take long.... i may have to drill a hole and paint... but thats not to shabby to have 2 or 3 psi of boost on the highway

The only reason why I have SRI is because the strut bar presses down the air box and it was rubbing pretty bad... so I had to take it out and put in a cheap SRI. The reason why I bought a cheap one was because I didn't know if I will swap later or turbo or whatever.
The things don't rub against each other, I am happy. Couldn't careless whethere I gain a few ponies or not. The strut bar was my main focus.
Still have that CAI Extension piece at home, I might use it later, if no one wants to buy it.

hey charles,
I was once like you, leaving out the CAI extension(afraid of water)......until tonight(just put it on for fun).......man. YOu gotta give it a try, it made a difference for me. Takes 5 min.
Sorry sketch.
I also believe that SRI has little to no increase in power over stock. However, when my car was stock, anything over 6000 rpm would just scream and wail and feel lifeless until the 7100 cutoff.
with the SRI I felt a loss in low-end torque, but when it hit 5500 rpm, it would pull and pull and pull till my fuel cutoff. SO it helped in the top end(very little pull).
now with the CAI extension on, I think it makes a big difference.
But yeah, having intake, headers, exhaust is no big whoop dee doo. Need boost or swap.

i just cut those 2 little slits with a saw type knife.. so that air can get in the fender well, what i really wanted to do is cut out the whole thing..but wasnt to sure with the rain getting in..but it shouldnt make a difference with that middle thing there anyways its not stopping anything..
