stock shocks lasting
#21
Boostzex: I see what you mean..., but you were reffering to driving under normal conditions, like normal speeds, normal cornering, etc... How fast in a croner would you consider too fast. I mean its pretty much of common sence to not be going around bumpy corners at +100km. Doesn't mattter how good your shocks are +100km around a bumpy corner will definately make your car slide. I've taken some hard corners before and I haven't had that skipping effect, of course I ain't stupid to take hard corners on bumpy surfaces. Sure aftermarket shocks would be more superior compared to stock shocks, but I consider stock shocks to be fine for normal driving conditions. Now unless the shocks are totally worn, then yes that would be dangerous, but that goes the same for any aftermarket shocks. Just my .02 cents. Later.

the best way I've found to tell if hte strust are worn is when you tap the brakes and the nose does a big sag or there is a small sag in the road and your car kinda floats down then up not a firm ride..and I've driven cars with blown struts and I can see how it woudl be hard to tell for someoen who isnt' schooled well enough on the matter...if they are really royally fucked then push down on the front end a coupel times really hard in a fleuent series of pushes then stop and if it keeps bouncing or takes along time to stop then they are gone.

Come on out to the next auto-x and we'll see if my crappy "Race" springs and stock shocks can beat you... I realize I don't have the optimum set-up, I do want new shocks, and hopefully will get some this winter, but, I was just posting to say that mine still work fine in under the above-mentioned conditions. I can't pour all my $ into my car (as much as I'd like to) because when you grow up and move out of mommie's house there are other things like a mortgage and bills to concentrate on.\
liek I said man keep **** in perspective and if you cna't afford to do it write save up more or spend the moeny on meaning full things liek a hair cut shoes socks...or in your case a mortgage and bills...I know to well how money issues work man trust me
I'd say atleast get some tokico blues they are pretty cheap and have slighlty more dampening than stock...either way sorry dudes if I came off as an ******* (I've just had alot of **** buggin me lately). Another thing is it really isnt' how low you go it's the spring rate of the spring like a pro kit has less which is why it rides nice and smooth compared to a h&r sport..I think you shoudl look at all the spring rates of all the springs and wagger that into your decision. And a higher spring rate means it needs a strut with more dampening to controll it. If you guy's want to know something I'll try my best to answer it so jsut ask

Dingus8,
I'd still like to see what you can do on an autocross against Stewpiddass. personally I think there is a world of difference between the double wishbone suspension of the honda civic and the suspension design of a dirt bike for motocross. you've said alot about how you don't think we know what we are doing... well thats fine. your allowed to do that but lets just say I'm calling you out what is then in your opinion the best spring rates and shocks and drop to have for a honda civic hatch? I'm curious to see what you come up with. I also auto cross ... however unlike stew I've choosen to keep my car stock ... but I would like to see what you can do for a setup. also lets make this more fun
lets see spring rates for front and back
drop for front and back
shocks for front and back (if different)
shock settings for front and back
sway bars? size? front and back?
braces? front and back?
I'm very curious about your design ideas for a "super" handling experience

just a note to all...
dispite what everyone in this thread is saying about puting lowering springs on stock shocks reducing performance... it greatly improves it... on wednesday i install some neuspeed race springs on my stock shocks and the handling improvement is like night and day.... i never knew springs could actually improve performance that much....
my ride isn't bouncy at all either... it is very stiff... but not bouncy.... but nuepseed also makes fairly good springs too.... maybe it would be different on lower quality springs or worse coilovers....

it all depends on what you like...if you like your car to drift, understeer, or you want it to turn in quickly (small tight low speed autocross) or have a more neutral feel (fast road course)...blah blah blah this is genrally a swap bar thing....what type of racing you do has an effect on suspension setup.....every car is different and you woudl have to drive it to get the spring rates and dampening down and after 1.5 you are losing alot of your suspension travel..now coilovers like tein generally mantain the travel even when your "low"...and the optimal amazing handling suspension that I woudl pick you coudl never afford...**** I coudl never afford..and trust me moto x is an extreme comparison to what your average honduh woudl be put through on a auto x course but the same principles apply spings rate to dampening. Slap on a pair of koni yellows then come talk to me buddy...you will wet your pants in the night and day factor (judging you werent' fingering your "A hole" when it came to adjusting them)...**** I'm tired it's late, you people are just ignorant but I guess ingnorance is bliss...I say goodday
#30
i know a bit about tuning suspesion... and yes my handling would probably be improved over what it is now with koni yellows.... but i'm just saying that slapping on springs makes a huge difference over stock springs.... and i dont have the money for aftermarket shocks of any kind right now so its works just fine for me....
by the way i dont know about you but i dont think suspension tuning is gonna make me wet my pants.... nor would i be fingering my "A hole" while adjusting them... so no worries there if that is how you tune suspension i might pass up on your offer though

ok so you continue to have that holy then thou art attitude and yet when asked for what the "ultimate suspension setup would be" you just claim each time of racing is so different and I'd never be able to afford it .....I hate to break it too you but when I can just hand friends money to buy an amp or give away a set of springs I have to someone that was nice enough to let me borrorw their car (my car is in the shop getting painted (a new color) ) I think that shows what sort of cash flow I'm working with
so now I'm going to make it more difficult now I'd like to see what your ultimate suspension setup for both autocross, road track and street would be (assuming the car being used for each example is a different car) and we will still say a 5th gen hatch as the base car.
if your again not willing to share good useful information then please don't post. as for me being ignorant well dude I'm open minded thats why I'm giving you a chance to provide useful info ... if I was ignorant I'd have hit the "ignore" button a long time ago.
anyways let me know what you come up with in terms of a suspension design (I also think that a double wish bone suspension is way different from a motocross bike because to start with one has 4 wheels the other just 2)

actually CiViC [-_-] BoY ™ the best suspension set up for all driving conditions... weither it be racing or street driving... drag strip or road course or solo2 ever...
is
stock springs... cut down 3 or more inches each... on stock shocks... if the shocks are blown thats ok too
LOL

hahaha its funny how people run there mouths then can't back it up
maybe thats what happens when you drive a neon... or his old dirt bikes.... maybe his head got bounced around to much on one of those and that explains his new found suspension knowledge

ya sorry my response wasn't quick enough for you guys'...I do have a job...it's a shitty one but it still takes up my time and the other half is filled with jerking off to a life better than this.....anyway the ultimate suspension set up is a fuckgin pointless thign to ask seeign how there is so much out there so many compainies blah blah so many setups...what is the point??? and sorry to say this but I'd not gonna know the spring rates of every ******* spring out there or the dampenign setting for ever shock to correspond for that spring..I'm not holier than thow I jsut knwo that springs on stock shocks is retarded and stupid and really has no point you are jsut payign more money when you eventually have to change them out.......not to mention the bouncing...GHEY!!!...ANd I have learned my fare share of how this stuff works...I can't say what the ultimate setup woudl be that is rediculous to state, If I did state that I woudl espect you to find out who I am and come kick me in the face and dick cause I'd be retarded...I mean h&r springs are good their coilovers are good the same with progress tein JIC and each have different models to suit everyones needs......KOni shocks are good AGX's are ok...GR2 are bottom barrell Tokiko's haven't heard to much about but the blues are a half step up from gr2's but simmilar....I always grew up thinkign if you can't do somethign write don't do it half ***...later guy's...

Tokiko's? I thought it was Tokico's
If you don't want to say what the best suspension setup is and answer gatherer's question, then don't bother answering my question, the original question was :

hehe ya my typeing sux..it's pretty obvious that that is the issue not my mental knowledge of words.....and the fact that I don't check after....and it isnt' a matter of how long it will last it coudl be 2 seconds till they "pop" or 2 years the whole point here guy's is yes it is a **** move to do because in the end your spending more money....and the fact that they are not designed to handle lowering springs.... ...and if you want to kick me in the dick then go ahead I don't care..yes it is tokico..adn I never said I knew the ultimate suspension setup because that is impossible to figure out...pm me if you want to kick me in the dick
