tuning stock engine
ok dudes, question....i have little money, ive made mods to the exterior of the veh, rims, tails..some mechanical....coilovers and exhaust, but the engine is still stock..is there anything i can do to give it some exta HP..without having to spend any cash?

well torque is more important then hp.... with that said what size rims did you put on? and I'd look at an intake if you haven't done that .... and if you have move to the next section of the tuning scheme which would be fuel... not just the octane level you pump in but the fuel delivery system... have fun

the only way to go faster without really spending any money is weight reduction...
so...
gut your interior
rip out your system
take out your spare tire
take off the spoiler
rip out your AC
don't drive with any passengers

actually there is 2 thing that will give you more horsepower that is cheap and free
1. Disconnect your powersteering belt
2. Run the car with no air filter
The 2nd one will probably screw up your motor the first time you driver over some serious dirt or gravel

yeah used intakes are cheap ... ok here's why I asked about your tires... and rim sizes ... go for a drive with stock 13 inch steelies on the car then go for a drive with the 16's ... now at a red light put the car in first then when you go on the green keep it in the lower gears to "feel the pull" of the engine in the higher rev range.... check this out with each set of rims .. I think you'd be surprised to find that the 13" rims will have more pull in the top end (where honda engines make power) anyways remeber don't speed when you do this or try to break any other traffic laws....
ok if you have an exhaust and at least a k and N air filter... time to go to step two (after trying the tire thing) borrow a fuel pressure gauge that connects under the hood start the car up with it attached and check out the fuel pressure ... bump it up 2 or 3 psi (how thats done I don't have a clue, thats what my mechanic is for) try that out if you can afford a dyno session see what your stock HP (torque) is then bump up the fuel pressure and look at it ....I'm sure that will squeeze out a few more horses...
and to the BMWlover .... take it else where if you don't want to be helpful then we don't really need you around

LOL, we haven't seen this clown BMWm5lover in a long time
Anyways, there are several "tricks" to use for "free" power. Like JSK said, weight reduction and no power steering is one of them. Becoming a better driver is another. LOL Advancing your timing will make you run 94 octane, but you could make an extra 5 hp... question is, are you willing to pay at the pump for those extra 5 hp?? Removal of the resonator and using a K&N is another cheap trick. But basically, making sure your engine is in good shape is the BEST way to make sure you are getting good power... that is until you are ready to spend about $5000 on engine mods.
