Turboing a D15B Engine??
Does anyone think that putting a turbo on the D15b SOHC VTEC -e engine is worth it? or will produce any decent results?
The engine is a 1.5L but i dunno if there is a way to actually make these things fast without doing TOOO much work..but what i had in mind would be doing a small turbo setup.....but i dunno if it would be worth it...if it is, could u recommend which turbo I buy???

main restrictions on that engine are exhaust design and throttle body. so get a b-series t-body and the exhaust has to get redone anyways cuz of the turbo. you can make a good 170 whp in your first shot. then you change the headgasket and head to a D16Z6 head and all that, pick up an extra 15-20 horses. eventually you can make 250 whp, but you will have to do mild internal work on the engine.

i personally wouldnt bother turbo'ing a D15. unless you reach full boost at like 1500-2000rpm i dont think its as fun as having a swap done. I have driven a D16z6 turbo and i own a B18B1 hatch and the turbo is nice, once u hit boost but until u get into boost its nothing different than driving a stock D16. Now driving the B18 there is power down low and up to redline and its just alot more fun to drive around because your not waiting for power or having to downshift to get into boost etc.

I'm buying a civic hatch 1999 CX if i purchased a D series manifold and turbo kit, will it work on this motor? or do i have to change the head?
also how strong and reliable is the CX motor? 7 psi worthy?? and the motor has around 125,000

D series turbo is fun i will say that, its impressive to see people building D series motors to do over 200whp. But i wouldnt do it personally because in my opinion it still lacks the low-end torque of a B18 or B20 so you arent waiting for boost to hit so you can get moving.
I understand about the whole clutch and LSD etc but you could always sell that to someone who is looking to do a nice D series turbo setup brian. I know you wont get your labour money back but i think it would be worth it to throw in a B18 or B20 rather than put money into a turbo setup.
whatever you decide brian you know ill be down to help you put it together and get your **** running nice, not as nice as mine though:P

more peak torque yes that is true although you can make a good 120wheel tq on a B20 with a gsr header and a hi-flo cat so it depends how much boost your running on a D series but it still wont have low-end.

when it begins to spool around 3000 rpm, the torque usually ends up around 150-160 wheel torque output. so you can drive civilized, and then when you need passing power, you just put your foot in it. I mean... I generally cruise around 2500 rpm, so 3000 rpm spooling would be real nice.

What is your definition of "low end"
Unless you are using a retardedly big turbo and/or driving in the wrong gear, you should be making boost long before 3.5 - 4k.... that comes pretty quick even on a baby d-series

by low-end i mean pull from 1000 up, i have driven my friends d turbo and you have to wait for boost to hit to go anywhere and this is on a D16z6. Im not taking anything away from the fact D series turbo are fast and even if you put a cheap setup together you WILL be faster in a quarter mile than a stock B18 or B20 but for a street setup i would prefer a B18 or B20.
unless your running like a T25 or even a 15g your not gonna have amazingly fast spool times with D16 because it has small displacement.
Put it this way, driving my B18b1 i dont have to downshift ever to pass unless im going like 20 in 4th. with a D series turbo you will almost always need to downshift to pass someone unless you stay in boost all the time meaning your cruising around at 4-4.5.
these are all just my opinions and stuff ive read/observed/experienced so take it with a grain of salt just like evreyone elses posts.
