a 12 year old seal, whether you take it out or not is irrelevant, it NEEDS replacing. I just went to do plugs on my 1990 Civic I just got, and the plug wells were FILLED TO THE TOP with oil, I have no idea how the poor bastard even ran. The plug gaps were about 3X what they should be, so about 3mm, I **** you not.

I've removed my valve cover 3 times this year without
replacing any of the seals and the plugs and cylinder
kepted dry...I guess just check your plugs a few times
for moisture if you decide not to reseal

Just replace it if you're gonna through the trouble of taking it off anyways. A new seal isn't that expensive and gives you a piece of mind.

The thing about silicons is that when it's old and dry , sometimes

it breaks up into small pieces and could fall in the plug

cylinder .

Just a quick question. When putting on a new seal, is there anything else that you should place/put w/ it?
