What Engine Do I Have??? Confusion With Swap

Ok, my car is a long story, as to what is in it, basically its a 1990 hatch dx. the engine that it came with, died, so my mech swapped in a engine from another car.

this other car was a 93 civic hatch, which he ordered a Si engine for since the engine in that car had died [dont ask me why he went with a Si engine, i dont know] ....

anyways, the 93 hatch..3 months later got rolled by the old man driver, and totalled, so my mech took the engine he put in it 3 months ago, and stuck it in my 90 hatch.

he says the engine is from japan, and as most of them are...it was estimated to have 50k on it when he got it, and it was in good shape and all.

so what the heck kinda engine IS it, it was put in a 93 hatch cx, which im assuming was auto, and mine is auto...its FROM japan, and its a SI engine he says.

is there any way to get the exact code?

this site gives me stats.. http://hybrid2.honda-perf.org/tech/engine.html

from lookin at that... it seems i may have a D16Z6 ..except that looks to be a US model. does anyone know what the JDM SI model is, or any other insight on this situation?

any help is appriciated, i just want to know whats in my car!

you most likely have a d16z6 (SOHC VTEC)

if its a jdm single cam motor its a ZC.

What does it ACTUALY say on the block?

And what numbers do you see just above the header? (you might not be able to see them until you remove the header heat sheild.) There should be 2 or 3 circles with numbers in it.

You forgot to mark these too. You were the one that showed me the numbers.

Remember that discussion? ..............(9/4) engine was put into a 95 Civic ?

and you marked the wrong locations.. the little circles should be right next to each other and further to the left.

oooooo, so I'm off by a couple of inches......sorry wise one, but I don't have an engine in front of me to get the EXACT location.

Once the heat shield is off, you'll see the little circles I'm talking about.

The engine code will be a 4 or 5 digit number like D16Z or D15B7.. just exapmles .. it's engraved on a flat surface on the front of the engine. look at the pic again. don't pay any attention to any little stickers you might have in that area.

Ya the engine code should be very easy to spot for D and B series engines, and for ZC too I suppose (I have never seen a ZC in my life). Other Honda cars like Oddessy is hard to see. My mom's new CRV is hard to see also, even though I know it is a B20 but just can't see it.

Oh btw, isn't engine displacement represented in the engine code? Like B18 is 1.8 liter, K20 is 2.0 liter and J35 is 3.5 liter...

so to see even the ZC stamp, you gota take the heat shield off? care to give me basic instructions for that...

also, for CAI, i guess it would use a 92-95 generic one...since im not going AEM or any brand name. a shop at pac mall, is getting me one for 75 no tax w/ brand name heat shielded filter

you should be able to see the engine code with the heat shield on.... thats the part that will say b16a or ZC, etc.... its the other info that pulovr showed that you will need to remove the heat shield to see

correct. The 2 bottom pics are just about covered up by the heat sheild. The one that says ZC, can easily be seen without moving anything out of the way.......well, maybe some dirt, if the engine is dirty.
