OEM style or a high flow canister style with low noise or no noise at all.

OEM sounding is best if you dont want heat from the cops.

I suggest to to an N1, or 5zigen style like mine. Or buy the proper HKS cat-back exhaust! boyiiiiiiiie!

Send me that pic, and I'll give you a price.

I'd recommend something a little more subtle, something that fits in the stock location... and has a normal sized tip. Magnaflow has been a good quiet choice for those who choose the model wisely.

mugen. looks good (close to oem), sounds good, built to not rust, and actually makes power (on the JDM version).

skunk2. looks like the n1, sounds absolutely amazing, reasonable noise (with silencer at normal rpm's), I have one and have never had a cop look my way. The skunk2 unit has an amazing build quality with mint laser welds, good stainless (has seen 15000km of winter and absolutely no rust from cat to canister tip). Sounds like a race car once vtec kicks in.

I had a magnaflow for about 6 months with stainless piping and resonators and when I pulled the thing off it had rust holes and all the piping and the two resonators (the thing was stupid loud) were completely rusted and it never even saw winter. I couldn't give it away and it ended up in the dumpster.

For comparison, a guy I know had the USDM Mugen exhaust and thought it made no power so he got the Skunk2 and found it made good power but was too loud, then went to the JDM Mugen and found it made the same power as the skunk2 but with less noise.

These are expensive exhausts, but you get what you pay for. Plus you get an exhaust that was designed for your car with no ugly custom weld spots on the canister and can be bolted on in front of your house with some hand tools. btw, I have seen greddy exhausts with extensive rust on them after two years.

Those types are generally very loud by design... try somethings more subtle in looks, and it will be more subtle in sound as well.

I'm personally not a Thermal R&D fan, I find them heavy... but they are used a lot on DSMs and whatnot b/c of their 3" turbo exhaust.

just be ready to take the abuse from cops... they don't like that style, just ask a few of our members.

What should we say if we're hassled by some cop about our N1 style mufflers?

What kind of mods are you planing on doing? If your just doing I/H/E and want a quiet exhaust, consider the Apexi Worldsport. The N1 is hella loud!
