Who knows the most about 4th Gens?

i need help...i don't know much about swaps and stuff but i have an 88 civic dx and i am deciding on wether or not to buy a d16z6 engine for my car and swap it in, but the engine doesn't come with the ECU or wire harness. i'm buying it for 500$ cuz i'm on a tight budget and i don't wanna spend anymore than that. Can somebody plz give me advice on wether or not you guys think this is the best thing to do and what r my other options besides swapping the whole motor into my car, or is there anyway i can use pieces to vtech my own engine. The D16 i'm thinking of buying has a 140Ks on it, a new clutch and it comes with everything except the Ecu and wiring harness... do you think this is a good price for the engine. thnx.

basically it woudl be a bitch to wire in and cost alot more than you woudl need to spend....you want vtec......why..??

the dohc zc will hand sdown kick the **** outta the d16z6 motor it has way better mid and bottom power....the sohc zc has pepy power at a afforable price...plus your dx tranny ahs bad gearign so you will be slow anyway...get a sohc zc for cheap from an importer and get a si tranny will be way better to wrie in and will still be a pepy car

well if you want to throw money out the door to get "vtec" whcich is the correct spelling then go ahead. But if you want a nice budget setup that will run good then get a sohc zc with a si tranny caue it's cheaper easy to wire in and will have less km's probobly if you get a clean one form a jdm importer....vtec really has no benefit if you can have a non vtec motor with teh same power....sohc zc has been said to have between 110-114 hp and with a si tranny it would be pepy...I'd stay away form that mtoor that apparently has 140 000 km's...goto a improter and ask for a qutoe on a sohc zc of if you ahve mroe money a dohc zc

dont' know anyone personally...where are you from.?? call up a "jdm importer" liek tiger automotive or lucky star are 2 that I know of in the gta area...call them up and ask them how much for a sohc zc for your civic then ask them how much for a dohc zc...they will give youa ball park cause they get kids all day askgin them ...you can show up with cash and talk them down a bit when you do go and buy....sohc shoudl go for 300-600 and a dohc should go for 600-900.... 900 shodul be complete with tranny ecu and motor.

check out the classifies on here...but I'd stick with a importer so you get legit documentation and possibly a warrenty

soem guy's on here might drop yoru motor in cheap for you if you need to have it done...

ive riddin in a 4th gen ZC swapped hatch and tell ya the truth I dont notice much diff at all then my Y8 sedan. Both are good motors. Only diff I see is if you are gonna mod it alot then get the ZC cause you will have better control with the DOHC

dude it all depends on what you want...you can get a dohc zc which will have more power and dohc but will be very old and most likely abused OR you can get a 96-00 D16Y8 which will be newer with vtec but less overall power. As far as the tranny goes for the D16Y8, use an si, or better yet, a ZC tranny (if you can find one) for an N/A setup due to the closer gearing...if you planned on doing turbo you would use the dx tranny because the longer gearing is better for the turbo. As for the DPFI > MPFI wiring...go read a how-to on it somewhere...you should be able to do it yourself if you have any idea at all.

I'm personally looking for a D16Y8 for my 89dx just because I want a newer motor with fewer km's on it...if I could find a DOHC ZC with low km's then I'd think about getting it. You can get a lot out of either engine. It's all been done before.
