to my knowledge Si, LX, DX is just trim levels. Sometimes there maybe performance differences. EG is a specific generation of Civics, the 5th one specially. I also think EG is a japanese designation only.

I'll let someone w/ more indepth knowledge get into details. And correct me if im wrong.

EX is also the USDM version of the CDN SI with power doors, power windows, and factory tweeters, things the CDN SI never came with. Its funny though, the top of the line civic from 92-95 never came with alloy wheels....hub caps only.

The old LX came with nothing pretty much, they are like a DX now. They changed over, but now LXs are closer to the top.

88-91 civic Si is the only one with a 1.6l the others have a 1.5L different gearing in the trannies too. Don't the newer models fluctuate between vtec and non-vtec depending on si,lx,dx?

i know in 92-95 the SI and USDM EX have a d16z6 SOHC VTEC and all the others have non vtec engines.

to summarize things a little, basically its just the difference in engine model and power options... sometimes its the trannies too back in the old generations... also, some models different just due to canada and usa do not model their car with the same letters!

Actually the difference between the SE and the DX was a little more, I own an SE and my friend owned a DX. The SE came with more options then the DX such as consoles, tach and a few other odds and ends. But other then that their isn't any difference

ok so at the end of the summer I bought a 92 Civic Si
2HGEH3384NH017275 is vin if you want to do a carfax.... The engine type is what im confused about..
I read that all SI come with a Vtec engine but my engine is different.. I am the second owner and there has never been an engine swap.. but yet my engine does not say vtec on it..
I will have pictures soon but the engine is a 1.6 L engine and just has the Honda logo on it which takes up most of the space and then no words...
sometimes i see vtec or 16v honda but mine says nothing.. What kind of engine do I have?

on 5th gens i dont think the valve covers say VTEC look for a solenoid behind the dizzy on the back of the block or the engine code would be D16Z6 for VTEC or a D15B7 for a non vtec

d-series engines never came saying v-tec on them, to my knowledge....thats usually reserved for the dual cam engines with the bigger valve cover

but for 99-00 the ex in the states and the SI in Canada had the exact same options, just different badges, its all different from year to year and generation to generation, just look around at some past post and maybe cross reference with some conflicting posts and you'll figure it out
