Cleaning Throttle body & Intake manifold

Hey TCC,

During the install of my intake i noticed some gunk right where the throttle body opens, I took it off and found more gunk inside the intake manifold so i took that off as well. Im going to head to crappy tire and buy some cleaners but I need some advice on what too pick up. I've seen some TB cleaners before but none for IM's. What would you guys recommend brands/cleaners for both TB & IM.

Thanks in advance!

Throttle body/carb/brake cleaners all work practically the same. Either will work. Just make sure you get some gasket maker for reinstall.

any parts store, or dealership (if you have the money), or you can get a "gasket maker", its like a sealent and you apply it to the manifold and just stick on the head. dries prettty quick and makes a nice fit. im running that stuff on mine, and no problems so far.

gasket maker can be found at just about any place that sells car parts. about $8 iirc.

Ok so I went to parts source and picked up some intake cleaner made by Revive and while I was there I found that "gasket maker" and the guy there told me not to use it with the IM due to heat issues so I just bought another gasket.

On the side note I found a guy selling the exact same IM that came off his lo km JDM B16. So my question is will it fit and is it worth buying or should I just clean out the one I have now. BTW hes selling it for $25

^Is your engine a b16? If so, yes it will fit. If not, then no it won't.

And yeah, for the intake manifold you must use a proper gasket. I suggest you pick up one of those 'thermal' gaskets. They are thicker and made of a composite material what helps prevent heat soak and keeps the intake manifold cooler. They aren't anymore expensive than a standard oem gasket.

For the gasket between the TB and intake mani, I would also use a standard replacement gasket, not gasket maker stuff. It's a joint between two machined surfaces and they aren't always perfectly flat. From my experience, the gasket maker goop should only be used in certain locations/applications where specified by honda. Anywhere there is a proper gasket, the goop should not be used as a substitute. It can be used in a pinch in some cases, but it won't last.
