Where is the 02 sensor located? 2000 Civic
Hi,
i have a 2000 Civic Ex, i need to change the primary 02 sensor. I dont know the location of the primary o2 sensor. If anyone can tell me where its located , that would be very helpful. Pictures showing the sensor would be very helful. Also if somene can give me tips and headers for changing the sensor , that would be awesome. Also should i be getting a honda part or would after market work just as good, because there is a major price diffrence.
THanks alot

^^ negative danny boy...that photo looks like its Y8 manfold.
the canadian 2000 EX came with the D16Y7 motor so the primary sensor should be visible right on the exhaust manfold on the upper front side (about on top of the built in catalytic convertor). unlike on the Y8 where its on the bottom side of the manfiold....as shown in the above photo.
this pic is of a Y7...notice the white wire at the lower end of the heat shield...that i believe is the wire coming out of sensor.

hondas don't usually strip the threads out, but when I worked at nissan, they were bad for doing that.
A tiny little dab of anti-seize and NOT tightening the living crap out of the thing go a long way for being able to remove them later on. I've seen some stuck *** o2 sensors in my day from tuning cars.
I usually just use a 22mm wrench (like weiRtech said) but I also have 2 different kind of o2 sensor sockets for those stubborn ones, the only problem is, sometimes space is an issue, so trying to use a socket can be more hassle than its worth.
If its really stuck, soak it in penetrating fluid (PB blaster, wd40, etc) for an hour or so then have at it. If its still stuck, its time for heat, get out the propane torch. It'll take a while using a propane torch, but most people don't have acetalene torches at home, so you'll have to be patient waiting for the propane torch to heat up the o2 sensor enough to bust it loose.
A shop would most likely charge at least 1 hour labour to remove and replace the o2 sensor.
