The part of the latch that hooks on to the metal thing bolted onto the door is preventing the door from closing.
It is not stuck, I can get it to the 'lock' position, and when i press that little thing and try moving to the 'unlock' position, it does not go all the way, and eventually the latch hits the point where it'd only go towards the 'lock' position but still never go up past a certain point. It is getting in the way and the door won't close

can anyone help me with this?

 

I guess a better and simpler way of saying it is

Door latch won't open fully, gets stuck at half way

 

try spraying it with some kind of a cleaner, see if that frees it up...
if so remember to re-lube it

if not, guessing you'll have to get behind the door skin to get a look at it?? see what be going on....

 

tried lubing it, cleaning it yesterday, i even tried to like
yank it by leveraging a screw driver, i took off the door panel but can't see much, thx for the input though, any other suggestions?

 

i dunno if this applies... but when i got my civic the trunk wouldn't close. I tried to adjust the striker and all that, crawled inside the trunk to watch it close... nothing helped... so I bought a new latch from the dealer... installed it... upon installation i found all it was, was the previous owner installed the cable from the trunk release lever too tight, so it was always pulling the latch open.... the lesson being, sometimes it's something no one will ever think of. you have to dig in and figure this one out for yourself.
