95 Si Instrument Panel LED conversion

Hey Ive been wanting to change my instrument panel and Gauge lights for a long time, ive replaced them before with #24 and #74 Bulbs, Im looking for LED ones this time

#74 are very small bulbs

#24 are bigger but in between #194 bulbs

Anyone change there vluster using these bulbs or know where to get them

ive found these sites but they either have 1 bulb and not the other or both but not in LED.

are you gonna do your buttons too... cause those are different bulbs also... small *** ones....

keep in mind that leds dont disperse light like regular bulbs do.... they send a more directed light... so your cluster or climate control might have areas where the light is brighter just because of the way an led works.... i don't know if you've seen someone that has leds in there dash.. i havn't ... but it would be good to find out... cause it may not be what you think it will be in the end....

but i am also interested in where to find an electronics store that sells lots of stuff like this... i know there used to be one on queen downtown but they aren't there anymore....

I was talking to someone who has already done it in the states, his photo made me wanna do it for sure, atleast give it a try. havent found any TO stores probably jus order online

he used all #74 bulbs and there is some hotspots on the cluster but he says not too bad, and besides ide rather just be able to tell that the dash and headlights are on instead of not being able to see bs.

I also heard if you sand the bulb down around the sides and the top off down to the light emitter it will disperse the liught alot better.

yea, sand down the top of the led where it comes to a rounded point and it will "unfocus" the light beam and ****** it out

the lights for the buttons are soldered in... but there are two big ones that light up the rest of the climate control....

i myself about a year ago just removed the old ones and resoldered in some blue ones... looks great but im changing my mind and thinking of going with some red ones now to go with my red/amber interior light scheme

are you going to replace the bulbs in the buttons too?? when i saw buttons i mean hazard, fog, ect.

yeah all you have to do is replace bulbs... remove and replace.. its real easy.... only thing that would be hard is the buttons on the climate control and even that isn't too hard... would take you about 1-2 hours tops.... and thats with removing the thing and reinstallin it afterwards... but that doesn't matter cuase your not doing it anyways

when you guys say to sand down the led do you mean just to roughen up the round end or to actualy sand it down to make it flat??

id like to know because of when i redo my climate control i want the led light not to be so direct.....

i belive overall sand thee sides but for the top to sand it down atleast if not round but flat down to the electrode light emitter.

anyways i did my conversion, i have blue in looks good, very vibrant color. not too much focussed light its okay dispersed.

red, blue green look vibrant n amazing, whte and uv are quite dim, uv is purple in color not really very uv.

Jeff

That looks very nice but tell me one thing....is the light uniform around the cluster or do you still see a little light spot in one location?

I replaced my stock white bulbs (the one with blue condoms) with regular amber ones from CT last year and it looked like this..

The amber looks bright in the pic but in reality...it is not. It is rather plain looking. I replaced one big #194 bulb and five #24 bulbs. I guess there were two #74 small ones but they were fixed/soldered.

I am also thinking of putting LEDs now...from where exactly you ordered and how did you about sanding them down. Post a DIY...that would be really helpful.

Here is the back of my EK cluster...

i did my GF's civic cluster and HVAC ctrls with red LED's that i got from superbrightleds.com good pricing and very good leds i got the ones with a flat head shape so light would disperse equaly and so it did ill post pics, the only thing is that on the ctrls they were moded and soldered cuz the bulbs are diff. and freakin tiny

ps i also did this on my prelude with blue leds.

there is slight variation but its not that bad as it sounds,. it still looks better then bulbs. it is more vibrant but not necessarily more brighter, if anything depending on color like the blue or red which are dark it is kind of harder to see sometimes but its nothing to fret about it looks real good. i acually didnt sand mines down i did a test with one but it dulls the color alot more then disperses the light

all the info is above in the forst post of what i did and where

i have a pic of the diff colors i tried out, i will try to post a pic when i get home
