Question Acura MDX trip computer in a Civic EK

Hey guys,

My mom has a Trip Computer in her Acura MDX and she's upgrading to an ful GPS system, possibly giving me the trip computer she has now. In my car - the area where the Cd deck usually goes you think i'd be able to fit the trip computer?

Has anyone ever tried/did this?

Thanks.

It may fit, but you better be an electronics expert with test equipment such as an ocilliscope and signal genrator to be able to get it working in your car. And even still it may not work.

Well, the reason why i'm thinking it'll be an ok swap is because they're pretty close if not dead on in bay size. The Trip Computer includes a bunch of features that I'd have to tailored to my car such as a digital compass, a tempature reading, gas measurements, and so on, handy little thing to have in a civic, if it'd work.

Thanks.

if you can incorporate the screen into your car you can make the computer work.

its been done before i will look for the how-to for it once i get the time.

a guy i used to know put a TL full navi/dvd into his nsx. i dont see it being much different in terms of incorporating it into your car to make it work. only hard part is obviously the ****ty part of tracing the wires from the harness and finding out what each one does.

lol,

Just looking that the Trip computer for the Acura MDX, this mod would be a pretty amazing Mod if it worked. the reason why is with all the buttons located on the side and the bottom, they would have to intergrated with the current setup on my civic.

I'm going to ask honda, and just ask around as well see if this is possible.

The thing is though the signal pulses in the MDX may be way different then his Civic so it may not be as easy as tying into the correct wires. Believe me I wanted to do this to my car as well.

Here's the thing, to have the digital compass working it's not as easy as just popping in the screen there's a piece that it's connects to that's not in my car yet, so im gonna need that part, same thing for the temparture readings, the gas mileage tool is gonna have to somehow work off the gas tank or the current speed that im going in order to properly display the correct readings. On top of that The button layout is completely different, unless Honda has the face adapter for my car, (which i don't think they do) i'm gonna have to tailor the MDX one, or design a craptacular piece of art to fit my car.

OK lets close this with a sad note.

I was over at Auto Sound Design and from what they said it's not possible to do this. Due to the electrical circuits and setup of my car with an MDX, it's completely different even though they're technically from the same company. But... (even if it did work) I'm only gaining a screen that has a temp reading and gas mileage (I'd need all the components), and to put this in and working properly (again, if it was possible) I'm looking at possibly $1000.00 for customization. So not worth it, Im just gonna get a full GPS system from Pioneer and call it a day.

Thanks for the posts.
