i saw the pic of your trunk install, just wondering how hard it is to make it? I have almost the same setup. I got 1 10' JL and a rockford amp. I even have an eg hatch also. I wanted to do a similar setup in my trunk. Is it easy enough that a newbie can make it?

Yeah a newbie can make it - but it may take some time (as it did with me. What I did took a lot of trial and error.) I had never done anything like it.

These are the main steps:

- Cleared out trunk and wheel well.
- Used carboard cover over wheel well as template for top board.
- Measured avaialbe space in well. Built box as wide as I could so it didn't have to go as high.
- Built bottom and sides.
- Took top piece and cut a pattern the same as the shape of the wheel well cover (slightly bigger)
- Trimmed it and kept resizing it until it mated with the box below.
- Cut to 10" circles in the middle
- Screwed and sealed top onto sides.
- Cut on side to make a removable piece to access the amp.
- Cut out small piece to view amp
- Built ghetto amp rack to displat the amp.
- Wired it all up.

I also built this thing like 4 years ago so some of the stuff I can't really remeber but you get the idea.

Dude just try and do it yourself. It'll give you a chance to "explore" your car... be one with the machine, you know what I mean??

Happy, you better not be too fresh with my Machine tomorrow while we're workin on it..

I'm the only one who is allowed to be ONE with my car. But you can be 1/2 for a lil while if need be

On a side note: If it rains, I got the mustangs headlights and two flash lights for us to work in the underground parking garage.

Regards,
OK

Yo Red - I'm flattered bro but if you are gonna pay tour good money - get a pro to do it - you know what I mean. I did it myself cause I could afford to screw it up and do it a few times till I got it right. If I was doing it for you I would want it to be perfect or I feel like I'm ripping you off.

So - if you are dead set on paying - go to a real shop and get it done right the first time.

However, I think you should listen to me and some of the boyz here and take a stab at it yourself. Don't just be a dummy though. Do you homework.

Figure out how big the box needs to be volume wise to maximize your sub...go to local audioshops and see what the materials cost - then go to like home depot and look for the stuff... surf the web and get some ideas...read DYI articles on the web...draw it first. Take lots of measurements... and last...don't rush it.

The only thing that you can really screw up and end up wasting your time (IMO) is if you don't pay enough attention to the sealing of the box. This thing needs to be air tight, so gets screws, clamps and lots of caulking. All other things can be fiddled with after to correct the problem but if you build a box that leaks...well...you may as well not even bother.

Maybe also get some quotes from local shops on what the job would actually cost... If they can do it in a day and charge you say 2 bills and you can't even get the materials for a tonne less...well it's a no brainer.

That's about it man - figure out what makes more sense for you.
sorry for the long post...

Fibreglass bottom or no????

Happyb16 did you use fiberglass for the bottom? Or Just place in a topplate? You should have the whole thing sealed up so it is air tight your subs will sound much better if you do this. RedMAn you have mail will try to help you out.

IMO fiberglass is the way to go so that you can maximize space, specially cuz you have a hatch. Fiberglass can be messy so be carefull! This link should help you out.

Remember that if you do it yourself and take your time you'll get more enjoyment out of your system and the feeling of being a MAN.
