Audio buffs...help a girl out
hello,
my question is if it is possible to hook up a sub w/ my MP3/CD deck that i bought...I have the Pioneer DEH-P4500MP
Here it the specs. link: http://legacy.pioneerelectronics.com...5,2763,00.html
The reason I'm asking is 'coz I want to add some BASS...my current setup is still pretty much stock...I just changed my front 6.5" speakers w/ the Pioneer TS-A1654 that they sell at FutureShop...rear speakers blown out already
Anyways the reason I'm asking is 'coz my friend told me that it is not possible to hookup a sub to my deck 'coz there is no RCA out for a sub...is this true?
any answers would be appreciated

yeah you need an Amp to power the Sub
the amp is connected to the Deck with the RCA cables and then from the amp to the sub wth speaker cables
if you don't have the money for and amp id get some rear speakers some 6x9s they will put out some nice bass

If that is forsure your deck in the link it says RCA Preouts (x2 pair, Front & Non-Fading or Front & Sub) (2V).... which means indeed you can hook up an amp to the deck to run a sub...it actually says it has non fade sub preout which is..it means you can controll the volume of the sub without affecting the other speakers volume...
did your friend look at the back of the deck?? there should be RCA preouts there...
come to think of it I dont think there is any manufacturer out there that makes a deck without RCA preouts...

some amps will have a feature that you can splice the feed to the back speakers and then the amp will use that as the signal and just cut out the highs with a built-in cross over...... however looking at your link
you shouldn't have a problem at all hooking up a sub if you gave the proper link.... there are your preouts

Well, getting new rear speakers would be step ONE...
For help to hook it up, we'd need specs on the owner as well as a pic... LOL j/k
I voluneteer the services of scarlemthug
Now... I have a Pioneer, and I know for a FACT that it is capable of driving a sub by itself, but mine is a comp-quality deck...
Also, I would not recommend it cuz it'll likely overheat and kill the deck. In your case, I'd look for a used amp - they are cheap... and hook all that up - or get scarlemthug to do it for you !

get a cheap amp like a 200watt or 300watt sony, or mtx or something like that
they are a dime a dozen on the boards sometimes

Can an amp be hooked up: Yes, you have 2 sets of rca pre outs, one for a front amp and rear, or front and sub amp.
Can a sub be hooked up to the deck:
Yes and No.
Like bruno said it can be done, but would it sound good I doubt not.
I know some Pioneer decks had the option to bridge the rear channels and run a very EFFECIENT sub off it, but I dont think this one did.
If you found a small power DVC sub like 8" or so, which was DVC 4 ohm you could run the inputs from the 2 rear speaker outs to the sub but then you would run into anopther problem, it is stereo output when the output would need to be a MONO signal even though running a DVC sub each input should be the same.
Thats why the pioneer decks with the combination sub hookup were a little diff: you could bridge the rear channel and run a mono output spec for a sub.
thanks
your audio noob

RCA Preouts (x2 pair, Front & Non-Fading or Front & Sub) (2V) \
You can for sure hook up a sub into your system, but you should get an amp if your doing that. I am guessing your front speakers are running off the deck so you should look into something low powered like 400wrms. Dont get a crappy amp like pyle or legacy or lanzar. Get a nice 10-12inch sub(depending on how big your trunk is) and put it in a custom slot ported box and you should be happy.
Things you will need
-10-12inch sub
-amp that matches the subs wrms rating at the right load impedance
-Rca's
-4awg power and ground wire
-speaker wire
-fuse for under the hood
If you need any in depth help feel free to add me to msn or just pm me (ms_2_Scarlem@hotmail.com)

I have 6 x 9's in my rear and they are decent but if u want real bass get a sub. There is a sale on right now at future shop for some decent pioneer subs. 99.99 for a 10' and 119.99 for a 12' and when u buy one u get one free.

i can't remember who has a set, but i do know they're available..
just run them off of deck power..
imo rear fill sux anyway..

I think Kicker has a set of 6X9 subs or midbass that are just that.
But any set of 6X9 you can mod by cutting the "teather" cord to the tweet disabling them.
