it all depends on personal preferance.. like the type of music you listen to etc...

basically when I look at speakers, I look at the clarity more than anything.. yes power is important, but what's power if it sounds distorted? I have Cerwin Vega IT-6.02 6 1/2 speakers/tweeter combo which is I love cuz the sound is crystal clear.. that's for the front.. I'm looking at new 6 1/2 for the rear right now..

as for subs, again depends on preference/budget.. something like 2 10's should be ample for someone that just wants bass...

Amp.. hard to say again.. either get a amp with 3-5 channels where you can adjust the low end and high end sounds, or one amp for low end (bass) (class-d) amp and another for just high end..

Deck?

Anything that has the number of pre outs you need for your setup, or just 1 pre out is fine if your using an external eq/crossover. Look for a good signal to noise ratio for cd, and also some good DA converters for cd. Do you want show or go? Some of the coolest decks are the denons, there really plain but supposed to sound amazing but have a really hefty price tag.

Speakers?

All depends on what you like? Do you like harsh bright tweets, or silky smooth tweets? Its more a personal preference but usualy a good 3 way set is best, if not a decent component set can run you around $300-500.

Subs: Once again about personal preference and install. Some say they like sealed over ported, some say opposite. If your good with boxes you can also try some transmission lines boxes or some membrane boxes, that use passive drivers.

Amp: Look for low THD level, and some tested specs to see that they put out what there rated for in RMS.

For subs, class D no doubt, Class A amps are supposed to be really nice, but effeciency takes a crapper on them, class A/B is a little better, more effecienct, (most amps fall into that category).

For a no limit setup Id choose:

Deck: Denon A1

Speakers: Rainbow Reference

Subs: 2 JL 10W7

Amps:

JL 1000/1 and JL 300/2

Well, I don't want to spend a whole lot ... but I am looking for a decent sub, powerful amp, and speakers for my car. So what kind of deal can you get?

for anyone that said SONY EXPLODE AMPs you should be SHOT
they are horrible im sorry
i would never pay 250 for a 1000watt amp (they are stable)

i like my Coustic 801db its 800watts RMS

but if i didn't have that i would go with what loudsubz said
thats a nice set up
but is that enough to push that BEAST of a Sub??

The setup Matt mentioned would cost you both arms and legs man. The HU alone is like $2000, then the speakers are like $5000, subs are $1200 each, the jl 1000/1 is around $700-900 for 1 and the 300/2 is $400 used. Good luck getting the money for that man.

Sony car audio is crap so dont look into it.

CiViC [-_-] BoY ™ - I have heard good things about coustic audio stuff. You should look into coustic crossovers and equalizers if you dont have one already.
