Ceiling, panels......

Ok here's the scoop:

I want to paint (or get painted) the ceiling on my civic, and everything else that is grey to black. The same colour as my door skins and half my dash. I want my whole interior to be black. Most of it is right now.....

But I would like the grey that is left to be turned into black..

How much $$ am I looking at if I do it myself...

Or if I get it done for me ?

heheh..that's the one reason why i wouldn't buy such a well know hi profile car from a club member... cause everyone will for the meanwhile at least still refer to it as 'happy's car... hehe

if it's just plastic, im sure u can take them off, sand em, prime em and paint them whatever color. as daquel on the board. his whole interior was done in white i recall.. looked sweet.

He's talking about the hearliner cloth... that just won't look right, that's all. Try paining a sweatshirt you have... see how that goes for you I didn't mean it like that sam... I'm just trying to get a visual. I'm not saying it's happy's car... obviously not...

Yeah - you can paint the headliner, just make sure you get stuff that claims to stick to vinyl...maybe vinyl dye. The pillars will be no problem, any black paint will do. FYI - I used tremclad and clearcoat on the gauge pod so that should give you an idea of what it looks like when done well.

If I were you Steve, I'd paint all the pillar peices (I was actually planning on doing that this spring) but leave the headliner alone. I have never seen one that has been painted/altered that looked good. The headliner is too soft and moves quite easily. This movement destroys paint finishes and all you end up with is paint chips falling on you when you drive.

Just my $0.02 but it's your call.

Whatever you decide to do, do it indoors or wait till it gets warm so the paint has a chance. Take you time and don't rush it.

My headliner is fuzzy, so I was going by that... I've never paid attention to the headliner of a 5th gen. But the rest of it is cool. I wanna swap out my entire interior for black, except, I've never seen a black EJ6 dashboard And no way in hell I'm painting parts... I have experience with that, and it's not positive. I mean, turned out well, but only looked good for a year. don't use Tremclad... use a flat interior paint like VHT plastic paint, or some other shiiiiiiat like that. You don't want glare off your interior parts when the sun is setting.

PS I didn't say leave the car as you bought it.... I fookin said you shouldn't attempt to paint the headliner :fustrated

There has to be a way to replace the headliner yourself. By the looks of that diagram its held in with a few clips so y not take it off and replace it with somethin the same size?

on my eg sedan.
re skinned the headliner with vinyl.
took me 3 tries to get it done right.
now its ok but not perfect.
on more try and it should be ok.
i think painting would just ruin it.
on the sedan its only held with 2 "push in" sort of clip and the
screw of the dome light.
if u decide to do it urself
do it when its warm.
my .02 c

I have to take the headliner out of my car as well.
