Crossovers (DO I NEED)
#2
Loudsubz would probably be the best to answer this...
But a crossover does help in temrs of seperating the frequency levels going through to certain speakers,
I e. control the bass frequency to the subs and the mids to the mids and so on
helps clean sound quality up

i'd recommend getting a good alpine deck, it'll seperate all your frequencies for you... or it your not into that, for cheap, you can buy capacitors that go on each speaker, so your speakers wont play bass...6$ each i think
make sure your deck has a bass out with sub control or your amp has a feature as to how high of frequencies you wanna play
or you can always buy an equilizer
so many options

if using more than one amp, no need Steve..
lowpass on the sub amp, high pass on the others..
beyond that, component sets will usually come with their own cross-over network..
same with one amp too i s'pose..
just run a coil on the sub, and again the seperates crossover will eliminate the lows going to yer front/rear speakers..

Alpine
It all depends on what your gonna be doing. If you buying raw drivers and your gonna build your own component set then I would suggest an Eclipse deck or custom crossovers from madisound. If your buying a component set usually they come with there own crossover networks that will seperate and also level out the frequencies for you. You still will need to high pass the comps. on the deck or amp at aroudn 80+Hz. For a sub if your running it ported you will be best off getting an amp with a Sub-Sonic Filter and a low pass crossover.
So many options out there so you have to be a little more specific. You dont NEED crossovers if you have the right install and speakers, but I would recommend making sure any decently priced comp set your considering comes with a set.

crossover where?
sub? fronts?rears?
highs? lows?
active? passive? butterworth, linkwitz weilly (sp)
so little info so many options.
I belive in a crossover... yes for seperating the freqs to the right components.
I do not like deck crossovers for some odd reason I feel they dont that great of a job, I prefer external units.
The steeper the slope the better.
A good 18db + per octave crossover running the whole shebang seperatign your highs/lows and maybe even mids would be best, then from there on out you could use an active crossover again and biamp your component set or run passive crossover to them./
your choice..
money is an issue
