custom interior..

really fine grain sandpaper, strong degreaser, lint free cloth, or soft car wash brush, clear coat, soft brush, latex gloves..
I'm in the process of doing mine, and the parts I've done, I've done like 3 times now, cuz I kept trying to cut corners, and do it fast. If you do it right the first time, it will take longer, but you won't get nearly as frustrated at haveing to do it over and over again, cuz the paint chipped, or you put on too much clear coat and it turned yellow, or you didn't allow you pieces to dry right.
Now to the process. I took out all the plastic pieces I was painting, and LIGHTKY sanded them. You don't want to leave visible grooves, just want to make it easier for the paint to stick. Then while wearing latex gloves (which is kinda fun in itself ), so that you don't get grease from your hands onto the part, each piece was THOUROUGHLY cleaned using the brush, or lint free rag, with degreaser. Rinse well with clear waterand allow to dry for at least an hour, in warm dry place, no humidity, or they wont dry proper. Try to handle the pieces as little as possibe from here on in, (taking a break to handle yourself however is of course fine). Using long even strokes, prime each pieces with about 3 LIGHT coats. If you put it on thick it will run and bubble and make a horrible mess. When I say light, I mean light, I never realized how light it should be at first. Allow to dry somewhere with as little dust as possible for 24 hours before painting, otherwise the paint will fuse with the primer, and you will not get the color you were going for. Repeat the same steps as the primer with your colour, only this time, use as many coats as needed to get the desired colour. Again alow to dry for 24 hours. Repeat again with the clear coat, about 3 coats of this should do, but make sure you don't put it on too heavy. Clear coat doesn't run or bubble nearly as much as the paint or primer, so you may be temted to put on thick coats, DO NOT do this, as it will turn yellow, and you will have to start all over again. Let dry for 24 more hours, and carefully reinstall.
The step are the same for vinyl, but use vht vinyl die instead, and it is my understanding that it does not need to be primed.
Note: I used all motormaster near match paint for my plasic part, and have had no problem.
Hope this helps
EDIT: Make sure you only do this at a temperture recomended on the can.

Can you not use a clear primer coat? That shouldnt affect the color that you want at all. When you are going to do your vinyl just make sure you tape everything off that you dont want colored, get some vinyl prep stuff to remove all the grease and armor all that has been used to "clean" it before and make sure you go over the vinyl carefully. If you go too heavy in one spot it will show later by some areas being darker and some areas being lighter. Make sure you get a quality vinyl dye BTW because some will fade from sun exposure and rub off. Here is a pic of my buddies car, he did his all with G2usa vinyl dye, even the plastic parts. I am a "cataloger" of this product but I need to get my website up and running. If you need any info on doing your interior pm me . Good luck and the key for it to turn out right is patience and taking your time.

removing interior parts
I was trying to take out some of the plastic parts on Saturday. To take out the plastic part surrounding the instrument panel, how do i do that? do i have to remove all possible screws holding the front dash together? and the central vent close to the windshield?
