HELP ! re: 95 corolla

hey guys,

i just installed a deck in my friends 95 corolla, and i have two problems.... and am just looking for some advice... seeing as i know some stuff about civics but nothing about corollas i'm hoping someone here will...

1st - after i installed the new deck the interior lights didn't work, (gauges, heater controls, etc) do you think this might be a fuse that i blew while finding wires?

2nd - the hole in the dash isn't din size it's smaller, the old deck was mounted just slightly behind the dash... now the problem is that the new deck is din size... does anyone have any ideas on how i could mount this deck properly? as it's like .5 inches into the dash right now and it's on an angle because the brackets from the stock radio don't really work that well for aftermarket decks..... should i cut the hole to make it bigger so that 'cage' or whatever it is can fit? or what.... any info would be greatly appreciated...

3rd... (ya i know i said two things but this is a request)
would anyone happen to have, or have access to a wiring diagram for a 95 corolla (i believe it's 93-97) for the stock deck.. just wondering what all the wires were because only like 7 were used and there were 15 total..

thanks guys!!

I rewired one of my alarm systems, and at the end I forgot to hook up a ground. Took me an hour to figure it out. Also, I tested a wire that I didn't know what it did, car was off, and the wire was getting 12V, so I assumed constant 12V (plus it was hooked into a wire close to the cigarette lighter)... so I thought they got lazy to run a constant from the battery... so I ran the wire through the firewall and put it on the battery, next thing I know the wire is smokin Turns out it was the signal wire for if the trunk is open, and the trunk was open when I was testing the wire. Be careful when you test wires to know exactly what you are testing

hahahah i hooked that up to myself!!!

ok this is by far the most trouble filled install ever... i swear her car is a POS because i can't imagine what all the trouble is being caused by now. Interior lights still dont' work, and i have no idea why, all the fuses are fine i don't know where to go for troubleshooting now..... and now her whole gauge cluster doesn't work, no speedo no gas gauge... this is baffling me. i don't understand how this can all be related especially with no fuses blowing... I tested all the wires again just like you said pulovr and they're right, cd player works fine, and then a few hours later it stops working.... no idea, still has constant power and ground and acc power.... and as soon as you take it out of the slot it's in it starts working again... i'm thinking maybe there was a loose wire in the dash somewhere to start with that wasn't mine and now it's touching the deck or something??? i have no clue, i swear i'm never doing anyone a favour like this ever again, i've done like 6 decks for me + others and i've never ever had a problem like this.... :fustrated: pos corolla!!

so if anyone has any ideas please help.....

Stop answering your phone for a little while LOL

I've never had such an experience, but... that is one of the reasons I refuse to work on other ppls cars. I don't wanna be responsible for defects that were already there, cuz it's easy for a person who doesn't know anything about cars to associate recent work done with recent problems... get what I'm saying.

As for your problem, it's time for a wiring diagram... go to a Chilton or Hayes (for wiring diagrams I recommend Hayes manuals at CT), spend the $14.99 and you'll never again question the value of one of these books.

meh well apparently it was the altenator so i'm off the hook, she was just trying to blame me for it and then the mechanic set her straight.... what can you do stupid people!! hahah well now i've learned the hard way what you already knew... don't work on other ppls cars unless you're working with them and they also have an idea of what's going on.... so it won't be your fault.....

That's like ppl that go have their battery changed, then go to the shop a day later and blame the poor guy cuz her car starts to overheat They associate the two only because both required work under the hood.
