problem with rpm-gauge

i'm having a bit of a problem with my original rpm-gauge of my honde, pulling up to 8000 rpm and the gauge says 3000. What could be the problem? can somebody help?

how are your grounds?? something quick and easy to check first..

look at all your cables under the hood, if the grounds look like they're wearing replace them..

i just say this cuz i've seen bad grounds cause this before..
