Remove centre console vent
#2
i've wondered the same in my car...
If you want it to look like there was never a vent there, the only way i can see that happening is if you took the vent out, covered it with a piece of wood and, put a thin layer of foam over it, and re-wrap the entire dash with whatever colour vinyl you want.
Probly the easiest way would be to fibreglass the dash instead of having vinyl though.
---part 2---
Fibreglassing the dash I believe would be hard though, you couldn't just go over top of the existing vinyl could you? Cuz that would change the thickness of the dash, and it might not fit back in the car to bolt in.
You'd have to rip the vinyl off before fibreglassing, but then you'd have to make sure you put enough layers on, to make it the right thickness so it's as thick as it was with the vinyl...
right???

loudsubz, what do you mean, take it out. I've done such a thing, but not delete it entirely. First of all, you have to remove everything that is in the way, then remove the grille for it. Stuff a piece of styrofoam insulation into it to block air from going to it. Then use the grille as the template for building a new peice you're gonna use to block it off. You can either take the grille part out, and use the surround as a bracket for your blockoff plate, or build a new part altogether. I've seen ppl place gauges in there, but I didn't like the way it looked. However, you won't get good air circulation inside the car when you operate the HVAC I think...but that may not matter to you.

Bruno, I just wanted to remove the vent, because I was contemplating on placing my tach there, so I just wanted to see if It came off so I could run wires int he vent somehow.
thanks

Oh yeah, it's the perfect place to run wires Matt. On my 6th gen there are phillips head screws that hold it in, and I gotta remove the radio to get to it, but it's no biggie, like 10 minutes worth of work. You can use a small flat screwdriver to poke through the soft plastic that the ducts are made of in order to get the wires out through it....and remember to tape the wires down, else you'll get an annoying buzz or rattle from in there

sorry man i misunderstood! I thought you wanted it to disapear completely!
Yeah, you can just pop it out with a flat head screwdriver. i can't remember where the clips are, ya just gotta be gentle, and it'll pop right out. The air ducts are right behind there, perfect for wire running...
it's "easy peasey lemon squeezy"
