Removing Centre console

Does anyone know how to remove the centre console from a 98 civic coupe ? I have removed all the pieces except for the one under the centre console and under the steering wheel. Is it even possible to remove this part from the car?

Pop out the de-fog and 4 way switches (top left and right) and there will be screws behind them. The swithes just need to be pried out ( Watch the plastic) Then unscrew the heater control unit from the bottom ( 1 screw i think) Then u just try to pry the whole thing out. There are several clips on the sides and bottom so watch for those.

That's all that I can remember from when I did mine. Make sure to look around under the console for anymore screws. The heater cable will have to be disconnected at the end of it. There's a little metal loop at the end of the cable that u just pull down and then unclip the whole cable from the metal frame.

If u drive without the console make sure to plug the 4 way switch back in or your turn signals wont work.

(Anyone) , if i left something out feel free to add/correct

How do I pop the top switches out? with like a flat head screwdriver? Right now my cd player is out for repairs so I have access behind the panel, does this help? I will go try now and see what I can do about popping those switches out.

Everything comes out...use a flashlight and lotsa patience. Don't force ANYTHING!!!! Also, if you are removing these to paint them... please think twice about your color choices. You'll have to live with those choices for the rest of the ownership, plus you gotta sell it like that later on. Don't pry anything with a flat screwdriver...the dash is somewhat soft, so the pry tool will likely pierce the vinyl very easily. Or you'll chip/scratch the part.

I am gonna paint the surround part arctic silver and then the rest will be black. Could I reach through the cd player hole and pop out those two switches?

BTW I really dont plan on selling the car. If I ahve dedicated so much time and effort towards it I dont think I will.

Ok, maybe you won't sell the car, but in 10 years you'll still be looking at a silver dash thinking...WTF was I doing then. I say this cuz how many times have I seen ppl paint things in the interior and then regret it...? Basically, yes, you can reach in there and pop it all out. If you got the thing where the lighter is, then look through there to see any additional screws. A flashlight helps a lot! The interior should remain as dark and as flat (non reflective) as possible due to glare. Also, any glossy colours look like *** when mixed with the flat nature of the inside materials. I did my vents and other plastic trim in flat black cuz my interior is gray...and I just wanted some accent colour. 4 years now, and I'm still very happy with it. But I'd be kicking my **** had I done it in like red/white/silver/blue...or any other color for that matter.

I'm just sticking with mainly black with some silver. I have to remove most of the other interior panels to remove the cigarette lighter panel right? and after thats removed there should be screws that I can remove and the centre console should pop out?

What you call a center console is actually the HVAC unit and garnish.

Plastic is brittle when cold and breaks easily. Just wait a while, and take a look at some cars with painted interiors. Maybe you'll change your mind. Just for your own good mang

I have looked over alot of redone interiors and I feel that if you stick to one or two colors and the colors arent super busy or bright that you wont get sick of it. I see people doing all fusion green interiors or bright red and that just isnt my taste. I want something that is different than stock but isnt goign overboard.

I like this interior except I wouldnt put any white inside my car.

That there is prolly a $5K interior. If you try to alter the stock interior, I think you'll end up regreting it. It's either do it all, or none at all. I admit, it's a really nice interior, except for the H badge and Civic badge in front of the passenger, but I don't think you'll get that look with just paint. Remember, the Civic interior is already gray, black, and tan, plus the seats are gray+other colors. I have black sparcos in mine, with the panels redone in black (where the cloth insert was), and everything else is gray and black. My car is silver.

Im gonna be dyeing the dash black, painting the majority of the plastics black with some parts silver. Putting some black cloth on the door panel part that already is grey cloth. Im redoing the seats in black and silver/grey vinyl, unless I can get some black ang grey reclinable seats for the front and use the same material for the rear seats. I will also be replacing the carpet and headliner. I am goind to "do it all" which is why im focusing on it right now.

My car is red so I painted all my plastic pieces red with the dark grey vinyl. Then a year later decided to go with the white interior and red plastic pieces. Now I'm redoing the whole interior with custom airbrushed graphics. It's not bad, all it cost me was $20 for airbrush paint and clearcoat. The airbrush I had for years and now it's coming in handy. I'll post pics when I'm done, to show what it looks like.
