Removing E-Brake Handle

I have an ek here, I have no clue on how to rip off the e-brake handle, any ideas?

pliers.. grip, twist and pull.. it's a bitch but it'll come off eventually..

Mine was a bitch too, so i swapped the whole assembly. It seems like they are one piece, but it can't be...
