Sub blown

Well dudes...

I bought my amp off somebody from this board.. but I can't remember his screen name.. I only remember his real name

Anyways.. It was a JBL 300.1 sub.. WICKED stuff!

I had it powering a single MTX Thunder8000 81244A 12" sub.. anyways.. I just had my sub tuned where I work and we discovered my sub was blown.. must have been blown long time ago!

Damn man! That sub is a 400 watt rms and 800 watt peak.. it's 4 ohm impedance.
The amp is a 300 watt rms ... and it blew it out.

Damn buddy.. talk about toasted voice coils!

loudsubz:

My sub was clipping and when you play it loud.. it rattles like a ************. Like you know when you close your trunk lid and you hear your trunk rattling like mad? Well.. my sub was doing that.. the ACTUAL sub.

My buddy at work took a look at my amp and saw my gains were turned WAYYY too high and I cooked one or both of the voice coils. He also said that it's possible that my amp was feeding WAY too much power for my sub to handle.

The 300.1s apparently were designed to handle 2 subs without problem... so I would imagine pushing 1 sub is a walk in the park for this amp...!

whats the rms on your MTX? im guessing over 250 or 300?

the JBL only does around 350 watt RMS>

that rattlign sound does it happen at all volume levels or only really high? could be the leads slapping agaisnt the cone.

The subwoofer is a DVC @ dual 4 ohm rated @ 400 watt rms and 800 watt peak. The MTX Thunder8000. Model: T81244A. (NOT the T8124A!) Being Dual 4 ohm.. this runs effectively @ 2 ohm.

The amp is a JBL 300.1. Maximum power of 300 watts peak and 300 watts RMS @ 2 ohm x 1.

The rattling sound is heard when the volume is turned pretty high... (my deck goes to 34 volume.. you can hear it at 21 and above usually if you crank the NF levels up. It's possible that the leads are slapping the cone. I'll get that checked out tomorrow.
