Suggestions for Audio System need some help

I drive a 99 civic 4 door, I've already got a JVC HU so basically I am looking to upgrade my front door speakers which are 6.5's and I going to get an amp and max 2 12" subs. I am looking to spend around $600 or so, and I will be doing the installation myself.

Basically I need some suggestions as to what brand or model 6.5's to use, and I have heard that some are too deep to fit into the door panel. I might just end up buying a set of used 6.5s that someone has for sure installed with no problems. So if you got a set, let me know.

Also I'll only be using the amp for the sub woofers only, and using my HU to power the front speakers. Most people I have heard discconect the rear if they have subs, so I plan on doing the same.

I really know nothing about audio. Computers! no problem, but audio I have never researched nor do I know of what is a good or proper setup.

If anyone has any suggestions let me know. or maybe even to make it easier, if you've got an install done somewhere that was a good, I'll go for the same setup!

Are you looking for components or co-axials for the doors? Also I would suggest disconnecting and removing entirely the 6 x 9's from the rear deck if your putting subs in your trunk. If you want pm me and ill try to help you out.

co-axial has the tweeter mounted in the middle of the midrange whereas component sets are a seperate midrange and tweeter.

Most definetly going with co-axial ... unless for some reason you would suggest against it. Also is Audio Bahn any good? Interested in a box with subs from them

I personally wouldnt suggest audiobahn but as marty said he hasnt had any issues.

Co-axials are good if your only gonna be running it off deck power.

Yeah I'll be running those from the deck. A lot of people are suggesting JBL subs and like Punch amps

I disagree they can sound just as good, but...

you cant compare a $40 coaxial to a $1000 component set

but there are some nice coaxials out there, it makes good sound imaging aswell, no need to worry about tweeter placement since its right on top.

Yup, co-axials are awesome for an easy install, pretty nice sound quality and imo work better off deck power than most components.

but then again not alot of people are willing to drop the coin for serious sound.

To some though (chris, myself and some others) SQ really matters, so when you choose a speaker make sure it sounds good because you have to live with it whenever you drive the car.

Definitely go to some shops and listen to some speakers running off the deck not off an amp and see which sounds good to you. Also I would check depth sizes on some speakers as you can run into problems if the magnet is too big or the speaker is too deep (had this problem myself trying to isntall my cdt 6.5's)
