What is AUX for?

I have a AUX connection (looks like a RCA cable jack type). I recall its only one wire.

What is it? And I hear I can hook up my MP3 player to it...How? The jacks look different.

Please advise. Thanks

its an input for a cd/mp3 player etc. there shout be two of these a red one and a black one. to hook up to this you need an stereo to rca adapter cable which you can buy from radio shack or pretty much any audio store even ct and walmart carry them. plus they're cheap like 5 bux

short form for Auxiliary input.

Its basically just a name given to a specific RCA input on the back of your deck like Higguns mentioned. You can run anything with a low level line out through this input.

Casette, MD player, CD player, MP3 player, DVD audio, Home made computer audio output, you name it you can run it.

Ahhh... I see! Cool stuff. Does anyone have a picture of the Stereo to RCA adaptor cable that Higguns was talking about so I know what to buy when I go to Radio Shack?

If its only 1 wire then it might be a digital input or a headphone jack input.

nah man, i have a digital input on my deck aswell as an analog input (female headphone jack). If its a single hook-up he wont be needing the headphone jack to rca y-connector.

bw carefull though, as i have learned even though it says auxx it could be for a cd changer and that is all, alot of the sony and pioneer decks you have to purchase an aditional part over 100 so you can plug n e thing into the aux, if you don't then you can only blug the cd changer uinto it as it is the only thing it will read withough the part...

Haha lol.

I just got mine up and running so anyone with an MP3 like an iPod can use it on my head unit. Not bad for what its worth...At least I'm taking advantage of what I have.

LOL. I didn't buy anything. I used what I had lieing around. I had a Altec Lansing PC speaker converter which looks like this: http://www.alteclansing.com/product_details.asp?pID=AAC1

So I used some old RCA cables for replacement ends for the adaptor and added another cable that had two ends of headphone jacks. Thats pretty much it. Sounds ghetto but it works and works pretty well
