windshield leak, flooding under floor mats

i have a 4th gen hatch, and last summer i took off the interior panels that go along the top of the the side windows [in the doors] and down the pilar beside the front windshield...

it rained...and my seats and interior got soaked...it was dripping in from the top edge of the windshield and around those side pilars..and through them [where the clip holes for the interior panel is]

if i leave the interior panels on..it doesnt drip on the seats or from the windshield but it funnels through those side pilars and ends up flooring under my floor mats somehow...its nasty, when it rains like it did today..theres like a CM of water under my mats, the front AND back ones...

anyways, last fall i took it to a windshield shop, they tested for a tight seal and found it was leaking, they supposidly took the windshiled out and recaucked it all, yet..obviously its still coming in just as much or nearly as much as before... there is that rubber seal that joins the windsheild to the frame of the car. im pretty sure its sealed, the side where the windshield meets the rubber, but the side where the rubber meets the car, its obviously not sealed. as it flows down those rain channels and in the top corners.

they said come back if theres any problems...but they did a kinda crappy job doing it the first time, and i kinda wonder if i go back again if they will fix it, or if they will just slap silicone everywhere.

its rusting around the edges of the window a lil which also isnt helping matters..so im wondering if for a quick fix i should just get some black silicone and seal the edge where the rubber meets the body, and try to do a neat job.

any other suggestions? i dont wana pay any more people to "Attempt" to fix this....its not a show car, so i dont want it butchered, but i dont mind if the "fix" is a little un-neat.

im just sick of having a wet interior!

take those interior panels off that go along beside the windshield and the top of the door [carefully] ... then wait for a rainfall, and see if water drips from the upper windshield onto your seats [on the outer edge] ...if so, u have a prob in the same place as me...congradulations.

ive tried taking up the carpet partially and seeing if i can find where its dripping down but its all just so damp and messy that u cant tell where its really coming from or where its getting in, all i can figure its its dripping down inside that post along the windshield and it empties somewhere behind the dash and drips down... cause its not coming in from the botton of the windshield..ive already tested that.

use a garden hose if you dont want to wait for a rainfall.

ill bet they fixed it, but it rusted out more causeing another leak....

the only true fix for this is to remove the windshiled do the required bodywork, reinstall windshiled...

otherwise your just filling in the holes with calking as it rusts away.

If you peal back that rubber trim you will have a good idea of whats going on.. the rubber trim around the wiondshiled unclipps, and you can put it back on after... just look for the split and remove it, then look for the rust between the metal and windshiled, that will be your leak... if no rust, then run a bead of silicone all the way around, then reinstall the outter trim u removed.

they didnt fix it because days later, the water was coming through just like it did before, i think they just did a crappy *** job..in which cause i should go back and complain and get them too fix it right? but they will likely just blame the rust so they dont have to do the work... the thing is water shouldnt get under that rubber trim, correct? because from what i can tell there is no proper drainage from underneth the rubber..who knows, im just fet up with it. i will try to remove the trim and i bought some black silicone, and ill go to town....

yup water is ment to get under that black trim. its the sealent between the windshild and the metal that holds water tight.

i paid 100 bucks for them to remove the windshield and re-seal it, no tax, no receipt..stupid on my part, its the place i got my tint done, great tint guy, crappy for everything else i guess... they said come back if its still leaking...i guess i can try going back just hope they dont just slap silicone all over my car...
