usdm, just because they have done some studies on the storms and the beach wash doesnt mean anything, the world is constantly changing and storms are getting bigger. Dubai is building up their tourism industry cuz they know they're running out of oil fast. I dont think that place would be very good to live if you're a foreingher, you cant own anything there unless you are from there and its hard to get a decent paying job. why would you want to live somewhere so un natural anyway. its a desert!!! Im going there for work in january to april 2009 and again july to october 2009. My friends have told me its not that great.

I agree, weather can be bad at times, but i think that place is in the red sea, which is not a deep ocean, so its very unlikely to have storms such as the pacific ocean.
It also depends on what your job is and where you grow up, i grew up in Europe, and then in Canada, but i loved it in Dubai. I had an awesome job, traveled in style, had a sweet ride, amazing house.
I think using the landscape is an excuse. It may be a desert, but people get out more there then here, look at the weather here in the last few days, being a somewhat a car freak, i would love to live there again. Sunny days like Florinda year round.
If you really get involved, while at work down there get to know people, go to the tracks rent a bike do whatever it takes. Rent a Land cruiser and go with a buddy to the dessert and tear it up, no one place is less boring then the other its what you do with it yourself.
I will tell you this all the people who say that place or region is boring, are either alone there, or new, or have not come back to NA to realize what they are missing out on.
I wish you the best on your journey down there.
ps: you CAN own, you can buy homes and business there now, without a sponsor.
