just read and do research whenever you can. those who bash one brand vs. the other are typically not serious about photography. its never the equipment, its mostly the photographer and everyone has their own technique.

if you know how to do your composition right, if you can judge the lighting, your subject and the surrounding correctly, you can take equally good photos with similar featured equipment.

It still eludes me every time. I'm never with camera when I see it coming. Soon enough I hope.
here is a cbc doc that explains it well. http://youtube.com/watch?v=EsVhNh6MGGg&feature=related

Nothing special. Just something new I picked up earlier tonight. I need to learn what all the settings do. Time to read the manual.

awesome shot, what settings did you find work best? I tried a really long exposure but it didn't really work well. I got lucky with shorter ones.

yah I saw some of them on flickr as well, I love seeing night shots of the toronto skyline. I have some more from a boat i was on this weekend, unfortunately I didnt have a tripod though so most of them blurred a bit.

the lightning shot was i remember 30 seconds long.....the best is to use a remote release method to go longer using bulb mode. add me on flickr if you wanna see full exif.

did you say moving shots...LOL. you dont need a tripod...just a steady hand. this shot is an HDR of three exposures...taken from the ferry enroute to the island.

I ordered a remote shutter, still waiting for it to come in the mail.

I have shaky hands and its almost impossible for me to get a night shot without blur, plus my I have no image stabilization lens to help. But that HDR looks amazing, I love the clouds.
