My front lower ball joint problem

Hey guys! So i realized i have a weird knocking noise under my car on the passenger side so i jaked it up and noticed that that rubber around the bushing thing or whatever is screwed and that metal inside is hitting that round metal housing. I posted some pics.
I usually do everything myself and i want to fix this myself too but i don't know much about these little suspension parts...
My questions are is this a front lower ball joint? (i have an EG civic)
and can i pop it out and put a new one on or do i have to replace the whole front control arm...(probably not but a few ppl recommend it)

Any help would be great because i want to get this done before it gets any colder outside!

I have the exact same problem. That is the lower control arm bushing, mine is on the drivers side.
What Im going to do, since my car is 18 years old is change everything all at once.
- Lower control arms
- lower ball joints
- upper ball joints/control arms
- outer tie rods
- Steering rack bushing

The parts arent that expensive, it's the labour that costs $$$.

Well the pushing doesnt excatly pop out. Its pressed in. If you have an air hammer you can get it out if you have an extra set of hands or vise handy.

Or you can put it in a vise, get a socket that fits perfectly over the outer race and BFH the bitch out. But mark how far in the bushing in before un-installment then re-install the bushing in just as far.

And thanks Bruno. lol

i would just take it somewhere to get it pressed in and out, i dont see it costing taht much and will save you alot of time and effort.

for that you would go get the enery suspension front bushing kit ....cut out all the old rubber inside the control arm leaving the original outer metal ring of the bushing and put the energy one in...presses in very easily with maybe the use of a pair of channel locks...if that...then you are upgrading at the same time

Dont replace the lower shock bushings with urethane, or else it will cause premature shock wear. Replace with rubber ones.

Its bad if you're using stock shocks. It can cause the shock to nlow, since the bushing is very stiff. I read it somewhere on Hondatech. There was a link to energy suspensions website that stated this. I cant find it now.
