Rear Upper Control Arm removal

Tried to help a buddy install his rear camber kit yesterday. Car is a 94 Civic EG
I don't have air tools but an electric impact gun. THis gun has had enough to take off axle nuts and other tight stuff with ease. Use it quite often actually

For hell it simply could not get the upper control arm bolt which connects the arm to the lower trailing arm.

I told my buddy most likely it will have to be torched off and the bolts will need to be replaced. As the factory spec for torque is 40 ft-bl (SElf Locking)

WEnt to honda just to get the bolts but each friggin bolt is 8 bux each (10x1.25x65mm) ****ERS!

Anyways is their anyway he can take his car to a shop and salvage the bolts?

i've seen this before, unfortunately the bolt is seized into the bushing. we ended up torching the bushings out and my buddy made himself some new aluminum bushings...

What kind of torch do you suggest i USE?

I have no kinds of torch's at home thats why i have to get my buddy to go to a shop.

When I use to go to shop's they always use the oxy-acetlyene torch's to heat stuff up.

For home use what did you use?

we had oxy acetylene as well, but I don't see why butane used to solder plumbing wouldn't work... I've used butane many other times on bastardly tie rods.

if you have access to a buddies shop, torch back end off and try to air hammer the bolt out. Hopefully the bushing will be in one piece (highly doubt it) Or you could drill it out (****ty) and maybe the bushing will remain in one peace.

Either way your probably going to have to buy a bolt and bushing. At the minium.. a bolt.

But have you tried heating up the bolt and using a high tq gun?

we actually don't care about the bushing because the NEW upper control arm is an adjustable arm so it already has a bushing. complete replacement essentially.

I don't have access to a buddies shop, just shops which he will have to pay. What exactly do you mean by a high tq gun? High Torque Gun? I only have one that goes to 185 Ft-Lb if thats what u mean.

Looking at the bushing it self the new one the threads are not in the bushings but at the end piece which is actually part of the trailing arm. I'm assuming this is the end you talking about to heat up.

185 ft lbs isnt that powerful hate to break it to you, Spray the bolt with wd40 for a couple of mins let it sit for 30 min grab a hammer and hit the bolt head a couple times grab a 1/2 inch ratched with socket and a long as extension and feel the bolt atleast try to you should be able 2 tell if its loosening if it doesnt seem like its coming out grab an actual high tq gun and try it out. Last but not least youll have to chop the head off and drillthe bolt out gooood luckkkk! Heating also helps but id reccommend heat and hit it with a hammer so you loosen up the bolt a little.

yeah 185ftlbs probably won't even take off truck tires. good luck with the bolt buddy those ALWAYS seize up. if you don't want to **** anything up just give it to a shop to take it out. butane might work for tie rod ends but it will not free up seize bolts like that because it's no where near as hot as oxy/acetlyene is.
